Water - the source of life on Earth

In Ukraine, as well as throughout the world, the problem of preserving the integrity of natural and obtaining drinking water every year becomes more urgent. About 40% of industrial and domestic wastewater in our country is discharged into impoundments without adequate treatment, which is one of the reasons for elevation of chemical and microbiological contamination of surface and groundwater. Some of these pollutants end up in drinking water, as water treatment works were built as far 50 - 75 years back, were not designed for the current level of water pollution. Due to inefficient disinfection of natural and drinking waters, annually in Ukraine come up an outbreaks of such dangerous infectious diseases as cholera, hepatitis, etc.

Researches carried out in the U.S., showed that the risk of diseases from microbiological water contamination is thousands times higher than water pollution from different chemicals. In addition, chemicals dangerous to human health are formed directly in drinking water during the process of cleaning in waterworks. In particular, carcinogenic chemical agents coming with the drinking water after chlorination can cause cancer, not only because of drinking, but when taking a shower, bath and in swimming pools. Therefore, one of the main challenges needs to be solved very soon - is the implementation of water cleaning and disinfection progressive methods.
